In Cameroon and across the world, young people are standing up for their right to understand their bodies, make informed decisions, and live free from shame or fear. But too often, they’re met with silence, stigma, or systems that shut them out. That’s why the message “Your body, your voice, your choice. The more you know, the stronger you grow.” isn’t just a slogan — it’s a call to action.
This message is the heartbeat of the FLAME Initiative, a bold movement igniting change in how young people in Cameroon experience sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Because we believe that when young people are informed, supported, and empowered, they become unstoppable forces for justice.
Why Does This Matter in Cameroon?
Cameroon faces urgent SRHR challenges, especially among its youth:
-
1 in 4 adolescent girls becomes pregnant before turning 18.
-
Many schools still lack comprehensive sexuality education.
-
Conversations about sex, consent, identity, and health are often seen as taboo.
-
Youth with disabilities and those living in conflict zones are even more excluded.
In many communities, young people who try to ask questions are shamed. Those who seek contraception are judged. Those who experience violence or coercion are silenced.
But young people aren’t the problem — they’re the solution. They just need space, support, and a platform to lead. That’s where FLAME comes in.
